• April 22, 2011 - Massively-multiplayer games can be huge moneymakers for the developers who make them, and like with anything that has huge moneymaking potential, there are a lot on the market. As a gamer, you might be wondering if, somewhere out there, there's an MMO that's just for you. Some magical, virtual world where you'll feel right at home hitting a boar with a mace so you can give it's spleen to a pixie.
We've done the legwork to bring you a soon-to-be-comprehensive list of all the major (and probably some of the minor) MMOs of the past, present and future. Hopefully with this list you can, at a glance, figure out if there's an MMO that is calling your name. • February 26, 2009 - Complaints about repetitive quests in massively multiplayer online role-playing games are as common as rats in a low-level dungeon. Since team behind City of Heroes, formerly at Cryptic and now wholly owned and operated by NCsoft, launched its online product in 2004, effective methods of building interesting quests have always been a challenge. Now with the architect feature, to be distributed as part of a new retail Architect Edition box this April and delivered free to subscribers along with the Issue 14 update sometime in March, NCsoft is handing over creative control to the player.
• February 13, 2009 - NCS oft Corporation reported their 2008 earnings today, listing $348.6 million in sales but only $19.5 million in net profits. That's a 5% growth in sales for the entire year, but a 40% decrease in overall sales. The disparity is attributed to the 'limited market exposure for Aion, which launched later than expected in Korea' and to the increased marketing costs of Aion and Lineage which have not been recouped yet due to Aion's launch late in the year. The good news is that overall performance for Q4 reflected increases across the board with a 26% increase in sales and a 60% increase in net profits. • June 16, 2006 - The problem I had with City of Villains when it first launched was that it wasn't sinister enough.
As a nefarious flying meanie, I was hoping to be more destructive and disruptive. Instead, I too often found myself fighting thugs and factions just as I had in City of Heroes (where it made more sense to me). Perhaps Cryptic Studios agrees with this sentiment, as Issue 7 of City of Villains introduces Mayhem Missions. We took a guided tour through one escapade just recently and got some cool video clips and screenshots of the anarchy, so don't forget to check that out.
